Mendalo Social media such as Twitter, Facebook, and Blog, have now become a vehicle for coloring discourses in public spaces. Social media is considered more emancipative and egalitarian, because it can directly voice the views of individuals into the public sphere. However, social media needs to be used wisely so as not to change Indonesia’s tolerant and friendly culture.

For this reason the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kemkominfo) of the Republic of Indonesia invited students in Jambi, especially Jambi University students (Unja) to be wise and productive in using the media or social media in the Senate Room of the Third Floor Rectorate Building Unja Mendalo (23/10).

The activity was opened directly by the Chancellor of Unja, Prof. H. Johni Najwan, S.H., M.H., Ph.D, who in his speech invited students to be wise to use social media so as not to get trapped so that negative things can harm themselves and the public.

For that reason, in accordance with Law Number 19 of 2016 concerning Amendments to Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Information and Electronic Transactions, we can no longer arbitrarily pass on information that is not necessarily accurate or uncertainly subject to criminal penalties, whether those who disseminate or not. forward information that is not necessarily true. For that, be wise in social media, “said the Chancellor.

Meanwhile, resource person from the Ministry of Communication and Information, Melani Effendy said social media is the second world that arises in the modern era today and students must be prepared and wise and must be productive in using or social media.

Melani also calls for supervision of parents or adults against children by carrying out the supervisory function in using social media.

“Parents now have to understand how to care for children when using social media, namely children must be under parental supervision, maintain privacy and sensitive information, teach responsibility in communicating online, limit social media usage time, login info must be held by parents, always log out after using, just connect with friends and family, teach them not to be bullied, “Melani said

The activities organized by students of Social Sciences Unja were followed by hundreds of students from various faculties in Unja. The event was also attended by the Dean of FISIPOL, Dr. Hartati, S.H., M.H.
